NCAA Game Summary - Arizona State at Washington State

(Saturday, November 12th)

Final Score: Washington State 37, Arizona State 27

Pullman, WA (Sports Network) - Connor Halliday threw for 494 yards and four touchdowns as he led the Washington State Cougars to a 37-27 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils in a Pac-12 Conference clash at Martin Stadium.

Halliday connected on 27-of-36 passes as he set the Pac-12 season-high for passing yards. Also having a huge game for the Cougars (4-6, 2-5 Pac-12) was receiver Marquess Wilson who caught eight balls for 223 yards and landed in the end zone three times for the hosts as they snapped a five-game slide.

The Sun Devils (6-4, 4-3), losers of two straight and three of the last four games, were paced by Brock Osweiler who converted 28-of-44 passes for 351 yards and a score.

ASU began the game with a bang as Jamal Miles returned the opening kick 95 yards for a touchdown.

Halliday and Wilson hooked up for an 85-yard TD pass play at the 6:35 mark of the first quarter, but a failed PAT left the home team with a 7-6 deficit.

Moments into the second frame Arizona State kicker Alex Garoutte knocked through the first of his two field goals, this from 39 yards away. WSU kicker Andrew Furney responded shortly thereafter with a 39-yard field goal of his own.

Midway through the second quarter Garoutte was back in the spotlight as he capped a nine-play, 52-yard drive with a 22-yard field goal to give the visitors a 13-9 advantage.

Halliday and Wilson were back at it with 1:15 before the half as they combined on a 23-yard TD pass play to give the Cougars a 16-13 advantage.

But the lead didn't last long because Cameron Marshall crossed the goal line from two yards out for Arizona State with only 13 seconds before the break.

The Cougars took control in the second half as Halliday tossed touchdowns to Wilson and Isiah Barton of 19 and 17 yards, respectively, although in between Osweiler kept the Sun Devils in the mix with a 16-yard TD pass to Gerell Robinson.

Ahead by a score of 30-27, the Cougars put the game out of reach in the final minutes of regulation when Carl Winston bulled his way into the end zone from one yard out.

Washington State, which entered the week ranked 14th in the nation in passing with 298.2 ypg, posted 503 yards through the air on the night.
