Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Chris Polk rushed for 144 yards and four
touchdowns to lead the Washington Huskies to a 42-31 victory over the Arizona
Wildcats in Pac-12 play at Husky Stadium.
The Huskies (6-2, 4-1 Pac12) were victorious despite Keith Price's mistakes.
The quarterback threw for 277 yards and one touchdown, but he was also
intercepted three times. Price's leading receiver was Polk, who added another
100 yards and one touchdown on four catches.
Nick Foles also tossed three interceptions for Arizona (2-6, 1-5), but the
signal caller did finish with 388 yards and two touchdowns. Both scores went
to Juron Criner, who finished with 118 yards on 11 receptions.
The Wildcats took control of the matchup early, using a 36-yard field goal by
John Bonano and a 24-yard touchdown pass from Foles to Criner to take a 10-0
lead after one quarter of play.
Washington responded early in the second stanza when Jermaine Kearse scored on
a six-yard run.
Bonano added another field goal for Arizona, this one came from 47 yards out,
but the Huskies went into the break with a 14-13 lead after Polk plunged into
the end zone for a one-yard score.
Less than two minutes into the second half the Huskies extended their lead to
21-13 with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Price to Polk.
Price then made a crucial mistake and Arizona capitalized, as Robert Golden
intercepted a pass and went 91 yards for a touchdown. Foles found David
Douglas for the two-point conversion, tying the game at 21 apiece.
The Huskies went back on top when Polk scored for a third time, this touchdown
was also from the one yard line.
Less than two minutes later the game was knotted once again, as Foles hit
Criner for a nine-yard scoring strike.
Just seconds into the final frame, Bonano drilled a 24-yard field goal to put
Arizona on top 31-28.
That lead did not last long though, as Washington scored the final two
touchdowns, en route to the win. Polk collected both of the touchdowns,
scoring on runs of five and two yards, respectively.
