NCAA Game Summary - Middle Tennessee at Western Kentucky

Bowling Green, KY (Sports Network) - The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders scored 14 fourth quarter points en route to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a Sun Belt Conference tilt at Houchens- Smith Stadium.

MTU (4-6, 3-3 SunBelt) only totaled 208 yards in the win. Phillip Tanner rushed for 62 yards, while Benjamin Cunningham rumbled for 59 yards and one score.

Bobby Rainey led the way for WKU (2-9, 2-6) with 248 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

Rainey's one-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter gave the Hilltoppers a 7-0 lead.

However, Eric Russell returned the ensuing kick off 97 yards for a touchdown, tying the game at seven apiece.

WKU's Derrius Brooks scored on a block punt just a few minutes later, but the extra point for the Hilltoppers was blocked as well, leaving their lead at 13-7.

Seconds in the second stanza Casey Tinius nailed a 38-yard field goal to extend WKU's lead to 16-7.

Alan Gendreau capped off a 13-play, 63-yard drive with a 23-yard kick for MTU.

However, Tinius closed out the half with a 22-yard field goal, as the Hilltoppers took a 19-10 advantage into the break.

Rainey's two-yard touchdown run pushed WKU's lead to 26-10 late in the third quarter.

Less than two minutes later Gendreau connected on a 40-yard kick, cutting MTU's deficit to 26-13.

Rod Issac returned a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown, brining the Blue Raiders within a touchdown of taking the lead.

MTU finally took that lead late in the final frame when Cunningham scored on a six-yard run, that put the Blue Raiders ahead for good, 27-26.
