Bowling Green, KY (Sports Network) - Jeff VanCamp threw for 140 yards and one
touchdown as the Florida Atlantic Owls slipped by the Western Kentucky
Hilltoppers, 17-16, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at L.T. Smith Stadium.
VanCamp finished the day 9-of-22 and was intercepted once in the win for the
Owls (3-5, 2-3 SBC). Alfred Morris ran for 68 yards and a score on 25 carries
for Florida Atlantic, while Lester Jean caught three passes for 79 yards and a
touchdown in the win.
Western Kentucky (1-8, 1-4) was led by running back Bobby Rainey who ran for
152 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries in the loss. Quarterback Kawaun
Jakes converted a mere 8-of-24 passes for 70 yards and was picked off once.
The Hilltoppers struck first on an 11-yard touchdown scamper by Rainey early
in the first quarter.
Florida Atlantic responded with a 19-yard scoring run by Morris, knotting the
affair at seven.
WKU took a 9-7 advantage after stopping the Owls on a running play in their
own end zone with less than seven minutes remaining in the first half.
FAU jumped back on top after a 62-yard touchdown pass from VanCamp to Jean as
the Owls took a 14-9 lead into the intermission.
Rainey gave the Hilltoppers a 16-14 advantage after scoring the only points in
the third quarter on a one-yard touchdown run.
Florida Atlantic took the lead for good after kicker Ross Gornall connected on
a 26-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. Western Kentucky was unable
to answer back as the Owls secured the one-point victory.
