Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - The Wyoming Cowboys built a 20-0 lead, but then
had to hold on for a 20-15 victory after the Toledo Rockets made a late charge
in this non-conference battle at the Glass Bowl.
Austyn Carta-Samuels was 11-of-21 through the air for 102 yards for the
Cowboys (2-3), who snapped a three-game losing streak. David Leonard caught
seven balls for 62 yards and threw a touchdown pass from his wide receiver
Adonis Thomas ran for 94 yards and one touchdown for the Rockets (3-2) on 16
carries. Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens combined to go 14-of-35 through the
air for 184 yards. Eric Page caught six balls for 101 yards in the setback.
Alvester Alexander got the Cowboys on the scoreboard with a 13-yard run five
minutes into the first quarter.
It became a 14-0 game midway through the second quarter when Leonard found
Chris McNeill with a 37-yard touchdown throw.
Ian Watts booted a 32-yard field goal as time expired to give the Cowboys a
17-0 halftime advantage.
Watts added a 34-yard field goal with eight minutes left in the third quarter
to give the Cowboys a 20-0 lead,
Toledo got its first points of the evening when Alexander was tackled in the
end zone in the final minute of the third quarter.
The Rockets scored their first touchdown when David Fluellen scored on a six-
yard run on the first play of the fourth period.
Toledo continued to fight back in the final frame when Thomas scored on a one-
yard run. However, the team's two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving
Toledo on the wrong end of a 20-15 score.
