Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Spencer Keith threw for 252 yards and one
touchdown to lead the Kent State Golden Flashes to a 33-14 victory over the
Ball State Cardinals in Mid-American Conference action at Dix Stadium.
Andre Flowers led KSU (4-4, 3-2 MAC) with 77 rushing yards, while Jacquise
Terry added 54 rushing yards on nine totes.
Keith Wenning finished with 200 passing yards and one touchdown for Ball State
(2-7, 1-4), but was also intercepted three times.
The Golden Flashes took a 3-0 lead less than two minutes in the contest, as
Freddy Cortez connected on a 39-yard field goal.
Ball State took the lead with just under six minutes remaining in the quarter
when Wenning plunged into the end zone from the one yard line.
Cortez struck again late in the first quarter, connecting on a 43-yard kick,
which capped off a 14-play, 51-yard drive.
Kent State regained the lead early in the second stanza when Dri Archer broke
free for a 16-yard touchdown run.
The Golden Flashes extended their lead to 20-7 early in the third quarter when
Dorian Wood returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown.
Ball State started to fight back midway through the third frame when Wenning
connected with Otis Brown for a 32-yard touchdown strike.
Kent State extended its lead early in the final quarter when Keith connected
with Tyshon Goode for a five-yard touchdown pass. The team was unable to
convert on the two-point conversion, leaving its lead at 26-14.
The Golden Flashes finished off the Cardinals when Sam Kirkland threw a 24-
yard touchdown pass to Tim Erjavec, giving KSU a 19-point edge which would
last until the final whistle.
