East Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Zach Frazer threw for two scores as the
Connecticut Huskies took down the Pittsburgh Panthers, 30-28, in a Big East
Frazer was just 9-for-20 for 100 yards and an interception and he tossed
touchdown passes to Isiah Moore and Kashif Moore for the Huskies (5-4, 2-2 Big
East), who have won their past two games. Jordan Todman totaled 222 yards on
Tino Sunseri was 20-for-28 with 220 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions
while Dion Lewis had 13 carries for 77 yards and two scores for the Panthers
(5-4, 3-1), who had a three-game winning streak stopped.
Trailing by a point in the fourth, UConn took the lead on a 25-yard field
goal from Dave Teggart for a 23-21 advantage with 7:07 to play.
Ray Graham fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Huskies recovered at the Pitt
21. Two plays later, Frazer and Isiah Moore got together on a 14-yard score
for a 30-21 lead with 6:19 to play.
Pitt made it a one-score game on its next touch as Sunseri found Jon
Baldwin for a 20-yard score to make it a 30-28 game with 4:35 left.
The Huskies, though, were able to hold onto the ball for the remainder of the
game, including converting a 4th-and-1, to prevent the Panthers from
attempting any comeback.
Pitt scored on its first possession of the game on a four-yard run by Lewis,
but Connecticut countered on its ensuing drive when Frazer and Kashif Moore
connected for a 36-yard score.
Teggart booted a 46-yard field goal for the only points of the second quarter
to give the Huskies a 10-7 lead at the break.
Teggart added a 39-yard field goal early in the third, but Pitt got a one-yard
score on the ground from Lewis and a five-yard TD from Ray Graham for a 21-13
Following the Graham touchdown, Nick Williams returned the kickoff 95 yards
for a touchdown to make it a 21-20 game heading to the final quarter.
