Boca Raton, FL (Sports Network) - Jeff VanCamp threw for 266 yards and three
touchdowns to lead the Florida Atlantic Owls to a 29-23 victory over the
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a Sun Belt Conference tussle at Lockhart
VanCamp completed 16-of-30 pass attempts for FAU (4-7, 4-3 SBC) and added a
touchdown on the ground as well. Alfred Morris ran for 122 yards on 25 carries
for the Owls, while Lester Jean grabbed four passes for 99 yards and a pair of
Bobby Rainey gained 144 yards on just 15 totes to lead the way for WKU (0-11,
0-7), which had the nation's longest losing streak extended to 19 games.
Signal-caller Kawaun Jakes completed 19-of-28 tosses for 146 yards, with a
touchdown and an interception in the setback.
The Owls opened the scoring in this one with a 16-yard toss from VanCamp to
Jean. The extra point, however, was blocked to leave FAU with a 6-0 lead.
FAU added a 20-yard kick from Ross Gornall late in the period.
The Hilltoppers got into the end zone midway through the second quarter
following a 27-yard strike from Jakes to Jake Gaebler.
The Owls responded a few minutes later with a 15-yard hookup between VanCamp
and Jason Harmon to go up 16-7.
WKU hit paydirt once more before the end of the half on a 21-yard Derrius
Brooks toss to Seth Tamme.
The Hilltoppers took a 17-16 lead early in the third quarter on a 31-yard
field goal by Casey Tinius.
FAU regained control midway through the frame on a three-yard scamper by
A 22-yard kick by Tinius early in the final period of play pulled the
Hilltoppers to within 22-20.
VanCamp and Jean hooked up again midway through the frame, this time on a 27-
yard toss to give FAU a 29-20 advantage.
The Hilltoppers converted on a 47-yard Tinius kick late, but the Owls were
able to hang on for the 29-23 win.
