Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Asher Clark carried the ball 20 times for
86 yards to lead the Air Force Falcons to a 37-13 win over the New Mexico
Lobos in a Mountain West Conference clash at University Stadium.
Savie Stephens and Jonathan Warzeka also got involved in the Falcons' (2-1,
1-0 MWC) ground attack, as each scored a touchdown in the win.
New Mexico (0-3, 0-1) was paced James Wright, who carried the ball five times
for 126 yards and two scores.
The Falcons took control of the game in the first quarter, when Jonathan
Warzeka scored on a nine-yard run to give Air Force a 7-0 lead.
Air Force was back on the board minutes later, when Erik Soderberg drilled a
24-yard field goal to make it a 10-0 contest.
The Falcons' defense got in on the act in the closing minute of the first
quarter when Jon Davis returned an interception 38 yards for the score.
Air Force extended its lead to 24-0 late in the first half when Savie barreled
his way in from six yards out.
New Mexico finally capitalized on its next possession when Wright raced 43-
yards for the score. However, the Lobos could not convert the point after
attempt, and the score stood at 24-6 in favor of Air Force at intermission.
The Falcons continued to dominate the game in the second half, opening up the
third quarter scoring with a 29-yard field goal by Soderberg.
Soderberg gave the Falcons a 30-6 lead minutes later with a 23-yard field
The Falcons put the final touches on the win midway through the third quarter,
when Connor Dietz hooked up with Kevin Fowler from 28 yards out to make it a
Wright added a late touchdown on an 84-yard run, but it did nothing to change
the outcome as Air Force held on for the 37-13 victory.
