Final Score: Ohio University 20, Ball State 17

Muncie, IN (Sports Network) - Theo Scott threw for 161 yards and the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter, as the Ohio Bobcats edged the Ball State Cardinals, 20-17 in a Mid-American Conference showdown at Scheumann Stadium.

That fourth-quarter touchdown marked the only trip to the end zone for the Bobcats (6-3, 4-1 MAC). Scott threw two interceptions and was also sacked twice, while Chris Garrett managed just 48 rushing yards on 18 carries (2.7 ypc).

The Ball State (1-8, 1-4) offense was held to just 247 total yards for the game. MiQuale Lewis carried 20 times for only 45 yards (2.2 ypc), and quarterback Tanner Justice went 6-of-9 for 78 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Matt Weller got OU on the board first with a 39-yard field goal with 4:12 to play in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats put together a 17-play, 92-yard drive that ate up 8:18, but the drive stalled and they had to settle for three points on a 24-yard field goal by Weller.

Ball State found the end zone on the ensuing possession, as Eric Williams scored on a one-yard run to give the Cardinals a 7-6 lead with 5:16 remaining until halftime.

OU regained the lead on a 52-yard field goal by Weller as time expired in the first half.

The teams traded a pair of field goals to account for the only scoring in the second half, until Justice found Jeremy Hill for a 35-yard touchdown pass to give Ball State a 17-12 lead with just under six minutes to play.

OU answered with a seven-play, 58-yard drive, punctuated by Scott's seven-yard touchdown pass to Terrence McCrae. Those two hooked up for the two-point conversion to make it a three-point game, and the Cardinals defense came up with one final stand.

The Bobcats have now won the last two meetings with Ball State, although the Cardinals still lead the all-time series, 13-8.
