NCAA Game Summary - U-A-B at East Carolina

Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - Patrick Pinkney threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns, as the East Carolina Pirate defeated the UAB Blazers, 37-21, in a Conference USA battle at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

Pinkney connected on an efficient 20-of-25 pass attempts, as the Pirates (7-4, 6-1 CUSA) maintained their spot atop the East Division standings. Darryl Freeney hauled in seven balls for 118 yards and a score, while Dwayne Harris finished with eight receptions for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Joe Webb threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns for the Blazers (5-6, 4-3), who saw their three-game win streak and East Division title hopes come to an end. Webb also got the job done on the ground, leading UAB with 132 yards on 25 carries.

It took the Pirates just over a minute to jump out in front, as Pinkney hit Harris on a 23-yard scoring strike.

UAB responded with an 11-play, 84-yard drive, but had to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Josh Zahn midway through the opening period.

ECU added to its lead late in the first quarter, as Pinkney threw a 59-yard scoring strike to Harris.

Ben Hartman kicked three field goals to account for all of the scoring in the second quarter, giving ECU a 23-3 lead at the break.

Zahn connected on a 33-yard field goal late in the third quarter for the Blazers.

The Pirates, however, responded a minute later with a 59-yard touchdown pass from Pinkney to Freeney.

Webb tried to keep UAB alive with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Rashaud Slaughter just seconds into the final quarter.

ECU answered immediately, though, as Harris took the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and a 37-14 lead.

The Blazers tacked on a late touchdown with a nine-yard scoring pass from Webb to Frantrell Forrest, but it wasn't nearly enough.

UAB outgained ECU, 520-325, on the day, but the Pirates forced two turnovers and used big plays to come out on top.
