Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Bill Stull completed 17-of-24 pass attempts
for 245 yards and a touchdown to lead the Pittsburgh Panthers to a 27-14 win
over the Navy Midshipmen in a non-conference showdown at Heinz Field.
Jonathan Baldwin was Stull's favorite target, hauling in six passes for 111
yards. Dion Lewis led the Pittsburgh (3-0) ground attack, carrying the ball 23
times for 79 yards and a score.
Navy (1-2) was paced by Alexander Teich who turned 12 carries into 80
yards.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, taking a 7-0 lead midway through the
first quarter on a six-yard pass from Stull to Oderick Turner.
Navy tied the game in the closing minute of the first quarter when Ricky Dobbs
pounded the ball in from one-yard out to make it a 7-7 contest.
Pittsburgh took control of the contest in the second quarter, when Ray Graham
raced in from 15 yards out to give the Panthers a 14-7 lead.
The Panthers extended their lead to 21-7 in the closing minutes of the first
half on a six-yard run by Lewis.
Pittsburgh scored the only points of the third quarter on a 29-yard field goal
by Dan Hutchins.
Navy responded early in the fourth quarter with a four-yard run by Marcus
Curry to make it a 24-14 contest.
The Panthers put the game away late in the final stanza with an 18-yard field
goal from Hutchins, giving Pittsburgh the 27-14 victory.
Pittsburgh controlled the flow of the game from the opening kickoff,
outgaining the Midshipmen 369-218 in total yards, including an overwhelming
243-89 advantage through the air.
