Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Austen Arnaud threw for 175 yards and two
touchdowns as the Iowa State Cyclones breezed through the Army Black Knights
in a non-league tilt at Jack Trice Stadium.
Arnaud also rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown for Iowa State (3-1), while
Alexander Robinson led the way 127 rushing yards and one touchdown on 21
carries. Robinson also played a role in the passing attack, hauling in three
passes for 51 yards and two scores.
As for the Black Knights (2-2), they finished the game with 186 rushing yards
on 48 carries. Patrick Mealy led the way with 54 yards on eight totes, while
Kingsley Ehie and Chip Bowden added 47 and 42 yards, respectively. Bowden
however, struggled under center completing just 8-of-21 passes for only 87
yards and one score.
Alex Carlton put the Black Knights on the scoreboard late in the first quarter
with a 32-yard field goal.
However, the Cyclones responded on their next drive with a 50-yard kick by
Iowa State pushed its lead to 10-3 when Arnaud hit Robinson with a two-yard
Minutes later the Cyclones struck again, as Robinson scored on a 68-yard
Army cut its deficit to 17-10 right before intermission, as Bowden
connected with Ali Villanueva for a five-yard scoring strike.
The Cyclones extended their lead to 24-10 early in the third quarter when
Arnaud rumbled into the endzone on a 14-yard run.
Arnaud and Robinson hooked up again midway through the final quarter, this
time the touchdown went for 32 yards and pushed Iowa State's lead to 31-10.
Army's offense was unable to put up much of a fight down the stretch, as the
Black Knights eventually fell to Iowa State by a 21-point margin.
