GAME NOTES: Fordham gets back to work on Wednesday night, as the Rams play host to the Fordham Paladins at Rose Hill Gym.

Fordham has had a week to relax since winning a hard-fought Battle of the Bronx last Tuesday against Manhattan (79-75).

Jon Severe's two free throws tied the game with 1:39 remaining, and Branden Frazier got a layup to fall and added two free throws for a four-point Rams' lead with 20 seconds remaining.

Travion Leonard's dunk the next time down sealed the four-point win, which was made possible by Fordham committing a season-low eight turnovers and setting a season-high with 26 made free throws. Severe finished with a game-high 30 points.

Severe and Frazier have been carrying the load offensively for the Rams this season, though Mandell Thomas chips in with 14.2 ppg and a team-high 8.0 rpg. Severe is pouring in 23.2 ppg and is just in front of Frazier's 21.8 ppg. The pair has provided more than half of Fordham's scoring output while pulling down nearly 12 rebounds combined per outing.

For his efforts, Severe was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for games played Nov. 25-Dec. 1. He currently leads all NCAA Division I freshmen in scoring.

The Paladins snapped a three-game skid last Saturday when Division II foe Brevard College came to visit and exited with an 89-72 loss. Larry Wideman posted a team-high 24 points and Stephen Croone added 22 on a perfect shooting night that saw him make all six of his attempts from the floor, including three from behind the arc, and all seven from the free throw line.

Croone has been stellar is his sophomore season. Saturday's effort gave him a fifth consecutive 20-point game -- the first Furman player to do that in nearly 30 years. He is currently providing 22.2 ppg to go along with a team- high 18 assists. Wideman is second on the club's scoring list with 13.7 ppg.

The only other meeting between these two programs came during the 1971 NCAA East Regional, and the Digger Phelps-led Rams rolled to a 105-74 opening-round win.

It shouldn't be another blowout, but with the way Severe and Frazier have been carving up opposing defense, Fordham should come away victorious.
