GAME NOTES: The Davidson Wildcats play the cross-county rival Charlotte 49ers on Wednesday night in a place they have never won -- Halton Arena.

Davidson is 0-7 at Halton Arena and has just one road victory all-time against the 49ers, who have won 12 of the last 15 meetings.

The Wildcats, though, are coming off an 86-80 road win over Stetson following their 1-2 showing in the Charleston Classic. Freshman Jack Gibbs led five players in double figures with 20 points, while Tyler Kalinoski nearly recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.

De'Mon Brooks missed the game with a knee injury, and while the Wildcats didn't necessarily need their leading scorer against Stetson, his 16.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg averages will certainly be missed for as long as he sits out.

Brian Sullivan and Tom Droney, who are contributing 13.9 and 10.7 ppg, respectively, will have to step up if Davidson hopes to compete through its non-conference schedule.

The matchup against Charlotte will not be easy, as the 49ers are riding a five-game win streak following a 77-56 win over UNC Asheville on Sunday. Shawn Lester paced four 49ers in double figures with 16 points, and the Niners shot 51 percent from the field and had a 43-35 rebounding advantage to win going away.

Lester leads the team with 15.3 ppg despite coming off the bench each time. Charlotte, which won the Puerto Rico Tip-Off title, has spread the ball effectively in the early going and boasts a whopping six players in double figures -- all ranging from Lester's output to Denzel Ingram's 10.5 ppg.

Willie Clayton is averaging a double-double with 11.6 and a team-high 10.4 rpg, and Pierria Henry has shown to be a capable playmaker with 5.9 apg to complement his 12.1 ppg.

Teams facing Davidson are shooting a ridiculous 54.9 percent from the field, and the 49ers are hitting at a respectable 45.2 percent clip through the first seven games.

That, coupled with the probable absence of Brooks, will have Charlotte holding the Hornets' Nest Trophy at the end of the night.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Charlotte 80, Davidson 65
