(Sunday, February 9th)

Final Score: Western Michigan 74, Northern Illinois 71

DeKalb, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - David Brown shot 5-of-8 from 3-point range on his way to 26 points, as the Western Michigan Broncos fended off the Northern Illinois Huskies, 74-71, in Mid-American Conference action at the Convocation Center.

Shayne Whittington tallied 15 points and eight rebounds for WMU (14-8, 7-3 MAC), winners of three straight, while Connar Tava added 12 points and seven boards.

For NIU (10-12, 4-6), which snapped a three-game winning streak, Jordan Threloff netted 16 points, while Aaron Armstead (14), Travon Baker (12) and Darrell Bowie (11) also scored in double figures.

WMU shot a lofty 58.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 5- of-7 from 3-point range, as it carried a 37-33 lead into intermission. NIU lagged behind at 48.3 percent field goal shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

The Broncos' advantage swelled to as many as 16 in the second stanza, but the Huskies climbed back to make their deficit just two, 73-71, with 49 seconds left on an Armstead layup. After Brown failed to make it a two-possession game at the foul line with a 1-of-2 trip, NIU had a chance to tie to the game on its last possession but missed a pair of 3-pointers in the final five seconds.

WMU earned a 37-27 advantage on the glass, which helped overcome a game-high 13 turnovers.
