Bowling Green, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Jehvon Clarke tallied 14 points and eight assists for the Falcons to help Bowling Green hold on for a 64-62 victory over the Detroit Titans in a non-conference action at the Stroh Center.
Anthony Henderson netted a team-high 15 points for Bowling Green (6-5), which also received 13 points from Richaun Holmes. Cameron Black posted eight points and the same number of boards as the Falcons picked up their third win in a row.
Juwan Howard, Jr. paced Detroit (5-8) with 17 points to go along with six rebounds. Anton Wilson came off the bench to score 16 points and Evan Bruinsma pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Titans were in control in the early stages of the contest and held a 26-15 lead with 8:44 left to play in the first half. Bowling Green outscored the visitors, 20-8, in the paint in the opening 20 minutes to chip away deficit and went into the intermission trailing, 36-35. Detroit led by just one point at halftime after it connected on 6-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc in the first period.
The Titans cooled off to shoot just 33.3 percent from the field including 2- of-10 from behind the 3-point line in the second stanza. Bowling Green made just nine of its 22 field goal tries after the break, but converted 10 free- throw attempts to survive the close matchup. Detroit, which trailed for the final 2:42 of regulation, had a pair of opportunities in the closing seconds. However, Matthew Grant missed a 3-point attempt with 11 seconds showing on the clock and Howard, Jr. had a jumper fall off the mark after he grabbed an offensive board.
Bowling Green's interior defense helped it outscore the Titans, 36-20, in the paint and limit Detroit to 12-of-31 efficiency from inside the 3-point line.
