Evansville, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Barlow logged 16 points, helping the Butler Bulldogs past the Evansville Purple Aces, 68-59, in non-conference action at the Ford Center.
Barlow shot 5-of-12 from the field for the Bulldogs (9-2) and brought in eight rebounds. Kellen Dunham and Khyle Marshall recorded 15 and 12 points, respectively. Kameron Woods contributed 13 rebounds and eight points.
D.J. Balentine was the offensive focal point for the Purple Aces (6-6), netting 26 points as the team's only double-digit scorer. Egidijus Mockevicius grabbed 15 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Aces got off to a solid start in the game's first half, shooting 42.9 percent from the field, including 3-of-5 from the perimeter. The Bulldogs, in turn, struggled at 35.5 percent from the floor, including 3-of-14 from long range. At halftime, Evansville claimed a slight 32-29 advantage.
The Bulldogs improved in the second half, putting together a comeback on the heels of a 40-percent shooting performance from the field while they hit 12- of-17 at the line. The Aces went cold, shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor, including 1-of-7 from 3-point range. The Butler lead was as large as 14 late in the contest.
Butler was the more dominant team on the boards, pulling in 49 rebounds to Evansville's 31. The Bulldogs also outscored the Aces 13-8 in points off turnovers and 16-8 on second-chance points to win their fourth straight game.
