NCAA Game Summary - Alabama at LSU

(Saturday, February 23)

Final Score: LSU 97, Alabama 94 (3 OT)

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - Johnny O'Bryant III had 24 points and 10 rebounds, as the LSU Tigers outlasted the Alabama Crimson Tide in triple- overtime, 97-94, at the Maravich Center.

Charles Carmouche added 20 points and 11 boards for the Tigers (16-9, 7-7 SEC), who improved to 13-2 at home. Shavon Coleman chipped in with 17 points, Anthony Hickey scored 13, and Andre Stringer finished with 10 in the victory.

The Crimson Tide (18-9, 10-4) had their four-game winning streak come to a halt despite a career-high 36 points from Trevor Releford, who shot an impressive 14-of-18 from the floor. Rodney Cooper was next in line with 18 points, followed by Trevor Lacey and Nick Jacobs with 11 and 10, respectively.

LSU's 8-2 lead on a jumper by Hickey stood as its largest of the game. However, the Crimson Tide answered right back with an 8-1 run, and they went on to take a 36-31 halftime lead.

The Tigers were never able to settle into an offensive rhythm in the second half, although they hung around thanks to a 14-2 scoring edge at the foul line in the frame. Trailing 69-59 with 2:20 to play in regulation, LSU made its move by scoring 10 unanswered points to force overtime.

Releford could not get a potential game-winning jumper to fall at the end of the first overtime, and LSU's Malik Morgan missed a 3-pointer at the end of the second extra session. Hickey's only trey of the game came with 1:21 to play in the third overtime and it gave the Tigers a four-point lead.

LSU enjoyed a 47-38 rebounding advantage for the game, and the Tigers also outscored Alabama at the foul line, 25-16. This was the first triple-overtime game ever played at the Maravich Center.
