Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Scott Wood scored a game-high 21 points as
he helped lead the NC State Wolfpack to a 78-73 win over the Hurricanes of
Miami-Florida in ACC action at BankUnited Center.
DeShawn Painter came off the bench to supply another 18 points and seven
rebounds for the Wolfpack (15-5, 4-1 ACC) as they won for the fourth time in
the first five league outings for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.
C.J. Leslie chipped in 11 points and seven boards and C.J. Williams 10 points
for NC State in a third straight win.
The Hurricanes (10-7, 1-3) were paced by Kenny Kadji who registered a double-
double with 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, not to mention making four
blocks for the hosts. Reggie Johnson and Rion Brown posted 12 and 10 points,
respectively, as well.
Miami led by five early in the first half, but the team made a total of just
seven field goals in the period and shot 1-of-9 beyond the arc, leaving the
Hurricanes with a 39-27 deficit at the break.
In the second half Miami again struggled on the perimeter (1-of-11), but made
a run at the Pack by connecting on 55.6 percent from the floor before
suffering the five-point loss.
During the meeting Wood also set the ACC all-time consecutive free-throw
record, surpassing the mark set by Duke's J.J. Redick who held the record of
54 from back in 2003-04. By game's end Wood, who sank all seven of his chances
at the charity stripe, had pushed his streak to 60 in a row.
