Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Durand Scott led the way with 17 points
as the Hurricanes of Miami-Florida defeated the Appalachian State
Mountaineers, 84-54, in a non-conference battle at the BankUnited Center.
The Hurricanes (8-4) placed six players in double-figures. Rion Brown scored
15 points, while Reggie Johnson, Shane Larkin, Trey McKinney Jones and DeQuan
Jones all finished with 11 points. Johnson and DeQuan Jones grabbed eight
rebounds each in the winning effort.
Andre Williamson led the Mountaineers (5-7) with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Mike Neal added seven points and seven assists as ASU lost its fifth game in
Miami came out of gate strong, hitting on 50 percent of its field goals,
including 6-of-12 from three-point range. They held ASU to just 29 percent
shooting from the floor and took a commanding 39-24 lead into intermission.
The Hurricanes heated up even more in the second half, connecting on 60.9
percent of their shots from the floor. The Mountaineers were able to improve
their shooting and hit on 42.3 percent of their field goals after the break,
but Miami was still able to cruise to the easy victory.
Miami outscored ASU in the paint 34-16 and outrebounded them, 34-30. The
Mountaineers made just 6-of-22 from beyond the arc for the game.
