(Saturday, December 3rd)

Final Score: Miami-Florida 83, Massachusetts 75

Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Durand Scott led the Hurricanes with 16 points, as Miami-Florida topped Massachusetts, 83-75 in non-conference action at the BankUnited Center.

Scott was 0-of-6 from the floor in the game, scoring all of his points at the free-throw line, where he went 16-of-18. He also added six rebounds and six assists. Malcolm Grant and Shane Larkin added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Miami (5-2), which also got 10 points and eight rebounds from Trey McKinney Jones.

The Minutemen (6-3) wasted a strong performance by Chaz Williams, who netted a game-high 22 points in the loss. Sean Carter added 12 points and Jesse Morgan chipped in with 10 off the bench for UMass, which has alternated wins and losses over its last six games.

Miami shot a modest 40.7 percent from the floor in the first half, but still took a 10-point lead into halftime (41-31), thanks to the Minutemen's struggles from the floor (.367 shooting). The Minutemen kept things close in the second half by going 16-of-20 from the free-throw line, but the Hurricanes were able to keep UMass at arm's length over the final 20 minutes.

Miami lost the rebounding battle 45-40, but shot a solid 47.1 percent from behind the arc (8-of-17) in the win.
