Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Durand Scott led four Hurricanes in double
figures with 15 points, leading Miami-Florida to a 69-58 victory over
Tennessee Tech in the season-opener at the BankUnited Center.
Scott was just 3-of-12 from the floor, but connected on 7-of-8 at the free-
throw line and added six rebounds and five assists, giving new head coach Jim
Larranaga a victory in his debut at the helm for the Hurricanes (1-0). Malcolm
Grant added 14 points in the win, while Trey McKinney Jones and Erik Swoope
chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Zac Swansey led all scorers with 19 points in a losing effort for the Golden
Eagles (0-1). Kevin Murphy added 13 points off the bench, while Zach Bailey
netted 11, but Tennessee Tech failed in new head coach Steve Payne's first
game with the team.
The Hurricanes trailed at the half 32-27, but won despite shooting just 38.9
percent from the floor in the game. Miami dominated the boards, outrebounding
Tennessee Tech 42-26 and turned 15 Golden Eagle turnovers into 21 points.
Tech struggled at the offensive end as well, shooting at a 40.4 percent clip.
