Cullowhee, NC (Sports Network) - Harouna Mutombo registered a game-high 24 points to lead the Western Carolina Catamounts to a 70-53 victory over the Citadel Bulldogs in a Southern Conference tilt at the Ramsey Center.
Keaton Cole added 15 points in the win for Western Carolina (11-17, 5-10 SoCon), while Tawaski King pulled down a game-high 15 boards. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Catamounts.
Mike Groselle finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace The Citadel (4-22, 1-14), which also got 14 points from Lawrence Miller off the bench. The loss was the 11th in a row for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs were stifled to just 28.0 percent from the floor during the opening period of play, allowing the Catamounts to take a commanding 36-23 lead into the break.
The halftime deficit proved to be too great for The Citadel to overcome, as Western Carolina cruised to a 17-point win despite a 35.9 percent shooting effort over the final 20 minutes.
The Bulldogs were guilty of a game-high 17 giveaways during the meeting.
