Hoyas down Savannah State

Savannah, GA (Sports Network) - Jason Clark made 4-of-6 from three-point range and finished with a game-high 14 points, as 19th-ranked Georgetown downed Savannah State, 63-44, at Tiger Arena.

Greg Monroe netted 13 to go along with seven rebounds, while Austin Freeman and Chris Wright added 12 and 11 points, respectively for Georgetown (3-0), which opened its season with wins over Tulane and Temple.

Darius Baugh went for a team-best 10 points for Savannah State (2-2), which has dropped two in a row. Tracy Rankins ended with nine points.

Patrick Hardy's jumper in the early going gave upset-minded Savannah State a quick 7-0 lead. The Hoyas, though, put together a 21-4 burst. Clark hit a pair of three-pointers during the surge, helping Georgetown go up 21-11 with nearly 8 1/2 minutes left in the opening half.

Wright's jumper in the closing seconds stretched the Hoyas' advantage to 34-20 at the intermission.

Georgetown maintained a comfortable double-digit lead throughout the second half and went up 48-28 after Monroe's three-point play near the midway point. Savannah State never threatened the outcome in the remaining time.

Game Notes

This was the third meeting between Georgetown and Savannah State on the hardwood, with the Hoyas holding a 3-0 series advantage. In last year's encounter, GU routed the Tigers at home, 100-38...Hardy finished with six points.
