USAFA, CO (Sports Network) - Taylor Broekhuis registered a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Air Force Falcons posted a 75-65 win over the Keydets of Virginia Military in the title game of the first annual All-Military Classic at Clune Arena.
Michael Lyons, the tournament's MVP, accounted for a game-high 20 points for the Falcons (2-0) and also pulled down seven rebounds for the hosts.
The Keydets (1-1) were paced by Ron Burks with 15 points, although he shot just 4-of-12 from the field, including 1-of-6 behind the three-point line. Keith Gabriel dropped in 14 points, Michael Sparks 13 and Rodney Glasgow 10 points to go along with five assists in the setback.
VMI led by as many as five points in the first half, but the team shot just 38.5 percent from the field in the period, en route to a 38-28 deficit at the break.
In the second half the Falcons, who converted 62.5 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, knocked down just 40.6 percent from the floor and 1- of-11 beyond the arc, yet the team still managed to secure the double-digit win.
A notoriously poor rebounding team over the years, Air Force actually posted a 41-29 advantage in that department tonight.
