Syracuse routs Colgate
Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Wes Johnson took over the game with 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists, leading No. 8 Syracuse to its 44th straight win over Colgate, 92-58, in the 162nd meeting between the two schools.
Johnson was a remarkable 8-of-10 from the field and hit three three-pointers for the Orange (7-0), who lead the all-time series with the Raiders, 117-45. Arinze Onuaku added 12 points, while James Southerland, Kris Joseph and Mookie Jones each contributed 10 in the win.
Yaw Gyawu, Mitch Rolls and Kyle Roemer had eight points apiece for Colgate (0-6), which has lost five of its six games on the road. Ben Jonson, Nick Pascale and Joe Hoban had seven points each in defeat.
Johnson opened the game with consecutive three-pointers, and a 9-0 burst later gave the Orange an 18-5 lead following an Andy Rautins three a little more than four minutes into the game.
After Gyawu's layup for Colgate with 14:16 left, the Raiders went more than six minutes without a point, and Syracuse scored eight points during the stretch for a 30-10 lead.
A 9-0 run, keyed by seven points from Southerland, toward the end of half helped the Orange take a commanding 47-16 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Colgate's deficit never dipped below 25 in the second half.
Rautins had nine points for Syracuse, which shot 57.4 percent in the game...Colgate shot only 36.4 percent from the field.
