Texas A&M overwhelms Florida A&M, stays unbeaten at home
College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Josh Carter poured in 20 points and the 14th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies cruised past the Florida A&M Rattlers, 83-54, at Reed Arena.
DeAndre Jordan scored 15 points and had four rebounds for the Aggies (12-1), who won their fifth straight game. Bryan Davis ended with 13 points while Joseph Jones finished with 12 in the victory.
Akini Akini led the Rattlers (3-8) with 10 points and six rebounds as no other player managed to score in double figures. Leslie Robinson was the second leading scorer with nine points.
Jon Mason netted seven points for Florida A&M, which has lost two straight and five of six overall.
Leading by one point in the early stages of the contest, Texas A&M netted 10 straight points to take a 28-17 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the opening half.
The Aggies continued to run in front and closed out the opening 20 minutes with a 14-4 surge to head into the locker room with a comfortable 47-30 advantage. Davis netted six points during the run.
Texas A&M remained hot to start the second half and opened the stanza with a 11-5 stretch to increase its lead to 58-35.
From there, the Aggies saw their lead balloon to as many as 31 points during the remainder of the contest as the Rattlers were simply outmatched.
Texas A&M, which got 30 points from its bench, ended the contest shooting 52.5 percent from the floor.
Saturday's game marked the first-ever meeting between the schools on the hardwood...Texas A&M remained undefeated at home through 10 games this season...The Aggies outrebounded the Rattlers, 44-26...Texas A&M was 15-of-20 from the charity stripe while Florida A&M got to the line just three times, making two.
