Petrova thumps Wozniacki for TOC title|
Sofia, Bulgaria (Sports Network) - Nadia Petrova cruised to a straight-set win
over Caroline Wozniacki on Sunday to capture the season-ending Tournament of
The second-seeded Petrova polished off the former world No. 1 Dane and top
seed with a 6-2, 6-1 pasting in the final. Petrova broke serve five times in
the rout and held each of her final 24 service games of the week.
"I knew this was the last (match of the year) and that I had to give
everything I had left," said Petrova. "I had some long matches before this, so
I had to keep this one to two sets. I didn't really have so much left in my
tank, so I had to play smart and keep the points short."
Petrova claimed her 13th career title and third of 2012. She also won the
Wimbledon tune-up in Den Bosch and captured the Pan Pacific Open in September.

The 13th-ranked Russian improved to 13-11 all-time in finals and beat
Wozniacki for the second time in six lifetime meetings. Petrova took the first
matchup back in 2008.
Wozniacki had won four straight in the series, including a three-set triumph
in the lone previous title match at the 2010 New Haven event. The two hadn't
met since 2011 in Doha.
Despite the loss, Wozniacki will be 10th when the new rankings are released on
Monday. She fell to 20-12 lifetime in finals, including 2-2 this year.
