Robredo, Granollers advance in Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Former tournament champion Tommy Robredo and fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers were among Monday's opening- round winners on Day 1 of the Copa Claro tennis event.
The third-seeded Robredo, who titled here in 2009, handled countrymate Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4, 6-4 on the red clay at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club. He will face Argentine wild-card Guido Pella, a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 victor over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, in the second round.
Granollers, seeded fifth at this event, outlasted Slovenian Aljaz Bedene 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and 49 minutes. The triumph set up an all-Spanish matchup with Pablo Andujar, who rallied past Argentina's Federico Delbonis by a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 score.
Buenos Aires native Carlos Berlocq also advanced on Monday, downing Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-4, 6-2.
This week's top seed is two-time reigning champion David Ferrer, who beat last month's Australian Open champ Stan Wawrinka in last year's Buenos Aires finale. The French Open runner-up Ferrer was also a Copa Claro finalist back in 2010.
