Commons' brace sees Celtic ease past St Mirren
Paisley, Scotland (SportsNetwork.com) - Kris Commons buried a second-half brace on Sunday as Celtic cruised past St. Mirren, 4-0, at St Mirren Park.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Hoops broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute through a goal from Charlie Mulgrew and Anthony Stokes fired one home five minutes later to give the visitors a quick 2-0 lead.
Commons then got into the scoring mood with 20 minutes to play when he smashed home his first of the day and completed his double just two minutes later to put the result to bed.
The victory sees Celtic widen its margin over second-place Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premier League to 13 points, while St. Mirren remains in ninth place on 20 points.
Also in Scotland on Sunday, Liam Craig bagged a brace for Hibernian, but Brian Graham's 90th-minute strike salvaged a point for Dundee United in a thrilling 2-2 stalemate.
Lyle Taylor and Aaron Sinclair scored first-half goals as 10-man Partick Thistle held on for a 2-0 result over bottom-of-the-table Hearts. And in Sunday's final SPL fixture, Mark Reynolds' 83rd-minute strike was enough to lift 10-man Aberdeen to a 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock.
