Rodriguez's double lifts Leon
Leon, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Rodriguez bagged a first-half brace on Saturday as Leon earned a comfortable 3-1 victory over Atlas at the Estadio Leon.
Coming off a Clausura-opening 1-1 draw against Atlante on Jan. 5, Rodriguez opened the scoring quickly for the hosts when he struck just three minutes into the match
Rodriguez then completed his double seven minutes before the intermission to give the home side a quick 2-0 lead.
Leon held the margin until the 77th minute of play when Luis Montes fired one home to make it 3-0 before Maikon Leite pulled one back for Atlas two minutes later, but it wasn't enough as Leon earned its first victory of the Clausura season.
The result sends Leon to second place in the table with four points, two behind Queretaro, while Atlas sits second from the bottom with one point from its first two matches.
Also in Mexico on Saturday, Jeronimo Cevallos and Mariano Pavone scored for Cruz Azul in a 2-1 victory over Santos, while Veracruz handed Atlante a 2-1 defeat behind goals from Liber Quinones and Luiz Sanchez.
In Saturday's final Liga MX fixture, Tigres and Pachuca played to a scoreless draw.
On Sunday, Mat�as Alustiza and Marlon De Jesus traded goals as Puebla and Monterrey played to a 1-1 draw, while Toluca and Morelia finished level at 2-2. Finally on Sunday, Aldo De Nigris netted the only goal in the 59th minute to lift Guadalajara to a 1-0 win over Jaguares.
