Leon puts four past Morelia to advance

Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Leon recorded an emphatic 4-0 home win over Morelia in the second leg of their Liga MX quarterfinal to secure passage to the semifinal round with a 7-3 aggregate victory.

The two sides played to a 3-3 draw in the first leg at Morelia, and the visitors nearly opened the scoring early in the match as Jefferson Montero hit the post.

But Leon took over from there and dominated the rest of the way with Hernan Burbano putting Leon in front after 28 minutes.

The hosts seized control of the two-legged contest in the second half with a run of three goals in 12 minutes to coast to victory.

Mauro Boselli scored from close range following a corner kick in the 57th, while Matias Britos headed home Leon's third goal before Jose Vazquez fired home a rocket from long range only one minute later.

Leon will now face Santos in the semifinal round after Santos notched a 3-1 win at home against Queretaro to advance.

Santos earned a 3-2 win in the first leg at Queretaro, which closed the gap to 4-3 on aggregate with a second-half goal from Isaac Romo on Sunday.

However, Carlos Quintero scored twice in the final 25 minutes to secure the win for Santos.

The other semifinal will feature America meeting Toluca after America narrowly slipped past Tigres on away goals, while Toluca coasted to a 4-1 aggregate win against Cruz Azul.

Toluca's 3-0 first-leg win at home put the club in a commanding position, allowing a 1-1 draw in the second leg to provide little drama.

America, meanwhile, finished 3-3 on aggregate with Tigres after a 1-1 draw in the second leg at home.

Raul Jimenez put America into the lead in the 52nd minute, while Tigres answered back through Alan Pulido in the 58th.

But Tigres was unable to produce another goal and America survived to advance on away goals.
