Dortmund stays top with demolition of Hamburg
Dortmund, Germany (Sports Network) - Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski helped Borussia Dortmund stay atop the Bundesliga table on Saturday, scoring two goals apiece to lead the club to a 6-2 defeat of Hamburg at Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund was two goals to the good inside the opening 22 minutes as Aubameyang's opener in 19th minute was supplemented by Henrik Mkhitaryan three minutes later.
Hamburg managed to equalize thanks to Zhi Gin Lam in the 26th minute and Heiko Westermann in the 49th minute, but the remainder of the contest belonged to the home side.
Dortmund exploded for four goals in the span of 16 minutes, the first of which came from Aubameyang in the 65th minute.
Lewandowski got his first of the match in the 73rd while Marco Reus added another almost instantly, and Lewandowski completed both the rout and his brace nine minutes from time.
The win keeps Dortmund perfect through Bundesliga matches as the club sits atop the table on 15 points, two points clear of Bayern Munich after its 2-0 defeat of Hannover on Saturday. The Bavarians were held scoreless in the opening period, but goals from Mario Mandzukic and Franck Ribery on the opposite side of the interval were enough to lift the reigning champions to 13 points on the season.
Bayer Leverkusen also kept pace with Dortmund as a goal from Sidney Sam and a brace from Stefan Kiessling handed the side a 3-1 win over Wolfsburg at the BayArena on Saturday. It was a bounce-back result for Leverkusen following its loss to Schalke last time out as the club improves to 12 points through five matches.
Kevin-Prince Boateng scored in just his second appearance for Schalke as his lone goal on Saturday handed his side a 1-0 victory over Mainz, while Werder Bremen endured a tough day at the office as Franco Di Santo was sent off in the 26th minute and Aaron Hunt missed a penalty kick in a 3-0 home loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Rounding out Saturday's action, Augsburg overturned a one-goal deficit to claim a 2-1 home victory over Freiburg.
