Twente tops Heerenveen to go second in Eredivisie

Heerenveen, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Twente rose to second place in the Dutch Eredivisie on Wednesday after coming away with a nervy 2-0 victory over Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

Twente entered the match riding a two-game winning streak in league play, but both clubs struggled to find their footing during a scoreless first half.

The visiting side finally broke through in the 73rd minute after Dusan Tadic buried his ninth goal of the season.

The hosts sent numbers forward in search of an equalizer, but Torgeir Borven scored a second goal for Twente in stoppage time to seal all three points.

Twente pulls within one point of Ajax for the top spot, while Heerenveen remains in fifth place on 33 points.

Also in the Eredivisie on Wednesday, PSV Eindhoven rallied from a goal down to earn a 2-1 victory over Cambuur Leeuwarden at the Cambuur Stadion. Elvis Manu gave the home side the lead after just two minutes, but PSV responded with an equalizer through Jeffrey Bruma in the 38th minute.

After the break, PSV had the better of the play and collected the winning tally in the 61st minute through Jurgen Locadia.

Go Ahead Eagles and RKC Waalwijk battled to a 2-2 draw at the Adelaarshorst. Job Van der Linden opened the scoring for Go Ahead in the 24th minute, but Waalwijk answered through Damiano Schet.

Xandro Schenk gave the hosts the lead in the 90th minute, but they couldn't hold the lead as Romeo Castelen answered with another equalizer less than a minute later.

Finally in the Eredivisie on Wednesday, Rens Vans Eijden and Rydell Poepon traded goals as NAC Breda and NEC played to a 1-1 stalemate.
