Van Aanholt's late goal leads Vitesse past Zwolle

Amsterdam, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Vitesse moved three points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table on Saturday after Patrick Van Aanholt's 90th-minute goal lifted the club to a 2-1 win at Zwolle.

Vitesse entered the day level on 37 points with Ajax, and the visitors seized the advantage less than three minutes into the game with a goal from Christian Atsu.

Mid-table side Zwolle needed just seven minutes to put together a response and Guyon Fernandez had the hosts back on level terms with his fifth goal of the campaign.

Lucas Piazon missed a great chance to restore Vitesse's lead in the 13th minute when he failed to convert from the penalty spot, and it appeared that the miss would cost Vitesse two points.

But Van Aanholt came through just before the final whistle to net the winning goal, taking Vitesse three points clear of Ajax with the Amsterdam side set to host PSV Eindhoven on Sunday.

Heerenveen remains in fifth place after being held to a 2-2 draw at home by Roda as the visitors equalized in the 71st minute through Guus Hupperts after a penalty kick from Alfred Finnbogason had put Heerenveen up 2-1 five minutes earlier.

AZ Alkmaar had little trouble with NAC, recording a 3-0 win with two goals from Steven Berghuis, while Groningen managed a 1-1 draw at RKC Waalwijk despite playing the final 21 minutes with 10 men.
