Piazon's brace propels Vitesse past Go Ahead Eagles
Deventer, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Piazon scored on a pair of first-half penalty kicks as Vitesse returned to the top of the Eredivisie on Sunday with a 3-0 win at Go Ahead Eagles.
A foul inside the penalty area by Deniz Turuc earned him a red card in the 35th minute and reduced the home side to 10 men while also allowing Piazon to convert his first penalty kick of the contest.
The second goal also came from the spot as Piazon scored once more from 12 yards just before the halftime whistle.
Vitesse was in complete control throughout the second half and Gael Kakuta added a third goal in the 65th minute as Go Ahead could offer nothing in reply.
With the win Vitesse moves two points clear of second-place Ajax.
Twente jumped into third place after a 5-2 win over NAC that saw Quincy Promes score twice, Aurelien Joachim scored in stoppage time to hand RKC Waalwijk a 1-0 win against Feyenoord, Den Haag remains in the bottom three after losing 3-0 at Utrecht, while Zwolle and Groningen played out a 0-0 draw.
