Second-half surge leads Athletic past Valladolid

Bilbao, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Athletic Bilbao netted four goals in the final 25 minutes to notch a 4-2 win over Valladolid at the San Mames on Monday, restoring the club to fourth place in La Liga.

Oscar Gonzalez handed the visitors a lead after 15 minutes when he scored after being set up by Javi Guerra, while Athletic nearly responded on the stroke of halftime with a header that narrowly sailed wide,

But the home side took charge of the match after the break and leveled the contest in the 65th minute with Ibai Gomez scoring on the rebound after Aritz Aduriz had his shot saved by Valladolid goalkeeper Diego Villar.

Aduriz had a hand in the second goal 10 minutes later with a flicked header into the six-yard box that was nodded home by Oscar De Marcos, putting Athletic ahead, 2-1.

Gomez doubled his tally in the 82nd with some help from Aduriz, and Ander Herrera put the result beyond reach by heading home a cross from De Marcos in the 86th.

Valdet Rama pulled a goal back in stoppage time for Valladolid, but the club remains in the bottom three with the defeat, three points from safety.
