Description: Alexander Semin will miss Saturday's game against Ottawa with a shoulder injury. Washington Post

11/21/2011 7:19:00 PM
Description: Alexander Semin is expected to be a healthy scratch for Monday's game against Phoenix. Washington Post
Insight: Semin has been underwhelming this season with four goals and nine points in 18 games. His 14 minor penalties, second in the NHL to only Corey Perry, have to be satisfying fantasy owners but not coach Bruce Boudreau. Don't expect Semin's exile to the press box to be a lengthy one, but this is clearly a sign that Boudreau is fed up with the likes of Semin and Alex Ovechkin tuning him out.

11/12/2011 2:40:00 AM
Description: Alexander Semin was benched during the final 24 minutes of the Capitals' 3-1 win over New Jersey on Friday. Washington Post
Insight: Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau used the same line about Semin as he had when he benched Alex Ovechkin, saying that he just didn't feel as if Semin had it tonight. Semin has been okay this season with eight points in 14 games, but he has just three goals. Expect him to turn it around at some point.

Description: Former Capitals forward Matt Bradley has criticized Alexander Semin for a lack of effort, especially during the playoffs. ESPN
Insight: Bradley, who is now with the Florida Panthers, told an Ottawa radio station that, "for whatever reason [Semin] just doesn't care" and that "when he doesn't show up, you almost get the sense that he wants to be back in Russia." Semin's lack of playoff success is well-chronicled, and he was singled out for his indifferent play during the Capitals' second-round series against Tampa Bay. We get the feeling that Semin could be one of the NHL's elite if he truly wanted to be.

5/5/2011 11:53:00 AM
Description: Capitals GM George McPhee said that he expects coach Bruce Boudreau to be back next season. Washington Post
Insight: When asked the question point blank on whether Boudreau would continue as the Caps' coach, McPhee said, "I expect him to be back. He's a good coach." Boudreau's season can't be judged solely on the four-game sweep at the hands of the Lightning, especially when players like Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin seemed to pack it in. However, the patience of Capitals' management has to be growing thin considering the team's inability to perform in the playoffs.
