Bolts sign first-round pick Drouin
Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Lightning became the first club to sign their first-round selection from last week's draft, locking in Jonathan Drouin on a three-year, entry-level contract.
The 18-year-old forward blitzed the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for 41 goals and 105 points in only 49 regular-season games skating for Halifax, then contributed 12 goals and 23 assists in 17 playoff games for the Mooseheads, who won the league crown as well as the Memorial Cup as the top team in all of Canadian juniors.
In 82 games at the junior level over the last two years, he has racked up 48 goals and 86 assists.
A 5-foot-11, 176-pound left-handed shooter, Drouin represented Team Canada, which finished fourth, at the 2013 World Junior Championships.
Drouin will become a restricted free agent once his contract expires.
