Flyers' Talbot has broken leg

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers continued their streak of ill health this season, announcing on Monday that forward Max Talbot is out indefinitely with a broken left leg.

Talbot suffered the injury in the second period of an eventual 5-4 overtime win over the Washington Capitals on Sunday, the result of a knee-to-knee hit with a Caps defender.

He was taken off the ice bearing no weight on the leg and had to be carried into the locker room by team staff.

Talbot, 29, in the second year of a five-year contract worth $9 million, totaled five goals and five assists in 35 games this season.

Philadelphia, which is fighting for the final playoff berth in the East and to stay out of the conference basement, is already missing forward Danny Briere and defensemen Braydon Coburn and Andrej Mezaros due to long-term injuries.

The club has also endured multiple absences due to injury with a half-dozen other players during this truncated 2013 schedule.
