Quick posts shutout as Kings take big win over Flames
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Jonathan Quick made 19 saves for his ninth shutout of the season and the Kings defeated the Flames, 3-0, on Wednesday.
With the win, the Kings moved into a tie with the Sharks for seventh place in the Western Conference standings. Willie Mitchell, Dustin Brown and Justin Williams scored while Anze Kopitar had a pair of assists for Los Angeles, which was coming off of Monday's 1-0 loss to Vancouver.
"It's that time of the year where all you have time for is hockey," said Quick. "If you're thinking about anything else other than getting two points for your team then your priorities aren't in order."
Miikka Kiprusoff made 27 saves for the Flames. They haven't qualified for the playoffs in two straight seasons and remain in 11th place is the West with just four games remaining.
"Our level of play has to be at a standard that's acceptable and tonight it wasn't," said Flames coach Brent Sutter.
Just 5 1/2 minutes in, Mitchell sent a blue-line slap shot past a screened Kiprusoff, giving Los Angeles a lead which it would not relinquish.
Brown added to the advantage at the 4:22 mark of the second. He charged up the right side and left a drop pass for Kopitar before fading to the left circle, where he got the puck back for a wrister past Kiprusoff and a 2-0 lead.
Quick, who is tied for the league-lead in shutouts with the Blues' Brian Elliott, made nine saves in the first, six in the second and four in the fourth.
Williams capped the scoring with an empty netter in the closing seconds.
Quick, who has 23 career shutouts, set a Kings single-season shutout record. He has won six of his last eight starts...The teams split the season-series, 2-2...Williams has six goals and five assists in his last 12 games.
