Description: GM Dave Caldwell believes Mike Kafka has a legitimate chance to be the Jaguars' Week 1 starter at quarterback. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: The Patriots released Kafka to make room for Tim Tebow earlier in the week. Jacksonville swooped in and picked him up less than a day later. Kafka is competing with Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert for the starting job.

Description: Backup quarterback Mike Kafka was cut Friday as one of the Eagles' final roster moves before the start of the regular season.
Insight: Philadelphia decided to go with journeyman Trent Edwards as the third QB behind starter Michael Vick and second-stringer Nick Foles. Kafka threw for 107 yards and two interceptions in limited action last season.

Description: Eagles backup quarterback Mike Kafka could be ready to play in Philadelphia's final preseason game, according to Geoff Mosher of Comcast SportsNet.
Insight: Could it be that the performance of Nick Foles this preseason has Kafka worried about his spot on the depth chart? He should be worried as Foles has looked very good in the Eagles first two games and is expected to start Friday night's game against Cleveland.

Description: Eagles backup quarterback Mike Kafka will miss three weeks with a broken left hand, according to Geoff Mosher.
Insight: Kafka's injury could open the door for rookie Nick Foles who looked good in the team's first preseason game. He threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns against the Steelers.

Description: Based on the reps given at the most recent OTA, Mike Kafka could win the backup role to Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
Insight: Kafka is competing against veteran Trend Edwards and rookie Nick Foles for the right to backup Vick. Given Vick's quarterbacking style, the handcuff to the Eagles starter is a valuable position. The situation bears further review through training camp and the exhibition season.

Description: Among all Eagles quarterbacks, rookie QB Mike Kafka reportedly "caused the most offseason buzz in the building" during OTAs. SOURCE: NATIONAL FOOTBALL POST
Insight: Marty Mornhinweg was said to be impressed with Kafka's accuracy and quick decisions, which were among the most impressive he's seen out of a rookie in post-draft workouts. Michael Vick should stick around this year, but it sounds like Kafka's future backup status is looking up.

Description: There is belief that Eagles rookie QB Mike Kafka is "bright enough and skilled enough" to be QB Kevin Kolb's backup in the near future. SOURCE: TRENTON TIMES
Insight: Kafka is the No. 3 behind Kolb and Mike Vick, but could be promoted if the Eagles suddenly cut ties with Vick after his recent off-field problems. A prototypical West Coast quarterback, Kafka could be a solid backup in this system in the future. But if Vick is cut, the team will sign a veteran instead of depending on a rookie behind Kolb.
