Description: 49ers rookie running back Carlos Hyde (ankle/back) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Chargers.
Insight: If Frank Gore is unable to suit up, Alfonso Smith or Phillip Tanner would start for San Francisco.

Description: 49ers rookie running back Carlos Hyde told CSN Bay Area that he recieved good news on his MRI but is still not expected to play on Saturday.
Insight: Not only did Hyde say he is not expected to play, he flat out stated he would need a miracle to suit up. The timing couldn't have been worse as Frank Gore is doubtful because of his concussion. Alfonso Smith or Phillip Tanner could be the starting running back on Saturday versus the Chargers.

Description: San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde joined Frank Gore on the sidelines Sunday after injuring his back.
Insight: It will be a race to see which 49ers running back can return for Week 16. If neither returns the backfield work would likely go to Alfonso Smith.

Description: San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde scored for the second time in three games.
Insight: Hyde still doesn't get enough carries to be a consistent contributor. Sunday against Washington he saw seven carries for 16 yards and a touchdown. He's only averaging 3.6 ypc this season.

Description: San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde hasn't scored since Week 3 and as Frank Gore has gotten more work, the rookie's numbers have suffered.
Insight: Kendall Hunter was the handcuff for Frank Gore, but tore his right knee ACL leaving Hyde. Hyde scored twice in the first two weeks, but his production has slipped since and fantasy should keep him on the bench.

Description: San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde ran well in his first action, posting 39 yards on five carries.
Insight: Kendall Hunter was the handcuff for Frank Gore, but tore his right knee ACL leaving Hyde as the obvious backup choice. This first performance will solidify his position.

Description: San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde could become a decent fantasy option and will certainly be the handcuff for Frank Gore after this weekend's injures to the 49ers backfield.
Insight: Kendall Hunter was the handcuff, but tore his right knee ACL over the weekend and LaMichael James will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a dislocated elbow. That leaves just Marcus Lattimore (knee) and Hyde as back ups. The team has stated they wanted to reduce Gore's workload this season.

Description: ESPN's Bill Williamson says that San Francisco rookie running back Carlos Hyde "is likely to get a chance at playing time right away."
Insight: Hyde reportedly has shined as a runner and receiver so far in practice. However, he's unlikely to carry fantasy value as a rookie unless Frank Gore gets hurt. After dealing with injuries early in his career, Gore has proven to be ultra reliable the last three years, though he is now 31 years old and rushed for a career-low 4.1 yards per carry last season. The team also has Kendall Hunter and Marcus Lattimore, who is attempting to come back from the devastating knee injury he suffered in 2012, in the backfield.

Description: Running back Carlos Hyde went 57th overall to the 49ers in the 2014 draft.
Insight: Hyde went third among running backs after Bishop Sankey (54th to Tennessee) and Jeremy Hill (55th to Cincinnati), but he may be the best back in the draft. He'll join a crowded backfield in San Francisco behind Frank Gore and Marcus Lattimore, who missed all of 2013 after suffering a catastrophic knee injury in college.
