Description: Mets right fielder Bobby Abreu will get the start in right field on Sunday.
Insight: He announced he is going to retire after the season, so the Mets decided to give him one last go-around. Abreu will be hitting second against Astros' starter Nick Tropeano.
6/4/2014 11:58:00 AM
Description: Mets right fielder Bobby Abreu is not someone you want in your lineup Wednesday against Chicago.
Insight: He's facing Edwin Jackson and that's rarely worked out well for Abreu in the past (6-for-33, 4 K's). The 40-year-old has had a good season so far (.309, 1 HR, 8 RBI in 55 at bats) but he won't be an option on Wednesday.
8/9/2012 6:39:00 PM
Description: Outfielder Bobby Abreu has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Insight: Abreu had been designated for assignment by the Dodgers last week. He won't carry any fantasy value while he's in the minors but Abreu (.246, 2 HR, 22 RBI) will probably be back in Los Angeles next month when the rosters expand.
8/1/2012 1:54:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles outfielder Bobby Abreu has been designated for assignment.
Insight: The Dodgers no longer need Abreu now that they have acquired Shane Victorino (.261, 9 HRs, 40 RBIs). Expect Abreu (.246, 2 HRs, 22 RBIs) to catch on with another squad soon, though his fantasy value will probably be very limited.
6/10/2012 12:15:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles leftfielder Bobby Abreu has never been a strong performer against Seattle's Blake Beavan. In 10 career at bats against Beavan, the 17-year veteran has only one hit.
Insight: Abreu (.292, 1 HR, 14 RBIs) sat out on Saturday so odds are he'll be back in the lineup today. Just don't expect a lot of production from him until Beavan (3-5, 5.22 ERA) is out of the game.
6/2/2012 8:35:00 PM
Description: Bobby Abreu hit his first homer of the season against the Rockies on Saturday. Abreu has played 33 games this season with the Angels and Dodgers.
Insight: Abreu is hitting .324 in 25 games with the Dodgers after bottoming out with the Angels, but he doesn't see enough starts to warrant a roster spot in NL-only leagues.
5/5/2012 7:02:00 PM
Description: Bobby Abreu collected his first hit as a Los Angeles Dodger Saturday against Chicago starter Chris Volstad.
Insight: Abreu is now 1-6 in his first two games with the Dodgers. Abreu should see more consistent playing time now that he is on the league's other Los Angeles team. Expect Abreu to split time in left field with Juan Rivera (.235, 1 HR, 9 RBIs).
5/4/2012 3:25:00 PM
Description: Bobby Abreu has signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers.
Insight: Abreu was batting 208, 0 HRs, 5 RBIs before being cut by the Angels and will be a nice veteran pinch hitter, but should have very little fantasy value.
5/2/2012 9:59:00 PM
Description: Jon Morosi from Fox Sports reports that Bobby Abreu is on the verge of signing with the Dodgers.
Insight: Looks like Abreu (.208, 0 HRs, 5 RBIs before being cut by the Angels) is headed to Chavez Ravine, where he'll be used mostly as a pinch hitter.
4/6/2012 10:18:00 AM
Description: The Angels have been trying to trade Bobby Abreu and his big salary but if he makes it into Friday's starting lineup against the Royals' Bruce Chen he would be a nice one-day play.
Insight: Abreu has nine hits in 15 career at-bats against Chen which is a .600 batting average and an OPS of 1.447.
3/30/2012 3:32:00 PM
Description: A trade that was being discussed on Thursday between the Angels and Indians has now fallen apart. Bobby Abreu would have been shipped to Cleveland as part of the trade.
Insight: It looks like Abreu is staying in Los Angeles. This news doesn't make Abreu's fantasy value any more appealing and it's still possible that Abreu could get traded at some point in 2012.
3/29/2012 9:54:00 PM
Description: The Indians and Angels are close to a deal that will send Bobby Abreu to Cleveland.
Insight: It's not an entirely favorable situation for Abreu, at least from a fantasy perspective. Travis Hafner is already Cleveland's full-time DH and the Indians already have seven outfielders on their roster right now. If the Abreu trade goes through, that would probably put the kibosh on any deal for Vladimir Guerrero, because he and Abreu are the same type of player.
3/29/2012 9:26:00 PM
Description: The Angels are looking to trade outfielder/DH Bobby Abreu.
Insight: There is just no room for Abreu in Los Angeles, in the outfield or at DH. Abreu didn't impress last season (.253, 8 HRs, 60 RBIs) and he's had a terrible spring training (.087 through 16 games). Abreu has had a great career (2384 career hits) but his days of being a valuable fantasy player are over.
2/14/2012 10:25:00 AM
Description: Bobby Abreu is going to have to turn back the clock and perform like he did before his last two subpar seasons if he is to have any impact, both real or fantasy, in the 2012 season.
Insight: Abreu is the fifth outfielder on the Angels behind Vernon Wells, Peter Bourjos, Mike Trout, and Torii Hunter and likely the No.3 DH behind Mark Trumbo and Kendrys Morales. He'll either need a big spring or a trade to have any significant fantasy value this season.
4/4/2011 5:35:00 AM
Description: Bobby Abreu went 5-for-5 and walked twice in a loss to the Royals yesterday.
Insight: Abreu should adapt well to being a full-time DH with just a little bit of OF work. His skills are in decline but the fade has been slow so far.
2/22/2011 11:19:00 AM
Description: "I'm fine with it," Angels OF Bobby Abreu said when asked about being the team's designated hitter. "I've always been on the field, but now I just have to get ready to hit. I will have to make adjustments right away. I need to talk to some guys who have been a DH to see what they do." SOURCE: Los Angeles Times
Insight: The Angels will be better, with the addition of Vernon Wells and the return of Kendry Morales. Abreu still has OF eligibility and, as the #2 hitter in the Angels order, should produce enough to be a #3 OF in mixed leagues.
11/22/2010 4:03:00 PM
Description: When asked about becoming a DH if the Angels signed free agent Carl Crawford, OF Bobby Abreu said: "I have no problem with that. If it's something that's going to make the team better, I'm for it. I've got no problem." SOURCE: CBS Sports
Insight: Abreu slumped in 2010 and this could help his bat get back on track since he would have less wear and tear from playing the outfield.
9/27/2010 8:03:00 AM
Description: Abreu went 1-for-3 with a double, RBI, walk and a run scored on Sunday against the White Sox.
Insight: Abreu is now batting .255 with 40 doubles, 20 homers and 77 RBI on the year. (
9/19/2010 11:02:00 PM
Description: Abreu went 2-for-5 with two home runs and two RBI on Sunday against the Rays.
Insight: Abreu is now batting .255 with 20 home runs and 75 RBI on the year. (
9/19/2010 5:40:00 PM
Description: Bobby Abreu homered twice today. He now has 20 homers and 21 steals.
Insight: His batting average has fallen this year and we expect this to be his last 20-20 season. That being said, Abreu has done better than expected for two straight years in Los Angeles so we shouldn't bet against him.
