Insight: Quentin also worked with Padres hitting coach Phil Plantier to develop a more upright batting stance. "It feels so much better," Quentin said. "I think this operation combined with my new standing taller stance is going to make a big difference next season. I didn’t realize how much torque I was putting on my right knee with my old stance from the squat. I’d swing without moving my right foot, which transferred everything to the knee."

Insight: Knee injuries have done Quentin in once again. It's a familiar narrative and at this point, it's fair to wonder how much more his weathered knees can take. Once an intriguing power option, Quentin's days of fantasy relevance are long gone.

Insight: Quentin (.275, 13 HR, 44 RBI) has been battling knee problems all year. Even if he does come back, he'll probably need surgery again after the season. With the Padres out of the playoff hunt, there's no reason for Quentin to push it.

Insight: Right knee discomfort has sidelined Quentin since July 31 and has been in too much pain to do any baseball activities. Manager Bud Black said he hasn't "heard anything close" from team doctors to suggest Quentin won't return this season, however.
