Description: Mets closer Jenrry Meji was unavailable Wednesday due to back tightness and is questionable for Friday's game against the LA Dodgers.
Insight: Jeurys Familia has saved three games since Aug. 9 while Mejia has picked up just one in that span due to various injuries (sports hernia, back, calf). It's hard to tell who will get the closing opportunity next time out.

Description: Mets closer Jenrry Meji was unavailable Wednesday due to back tightness, according to Marc Carig of Newsday.
Insight: Jeurys Familia has saved three games since Aug. 9 while Mejia has picked up just one in that span. Mejia is pitching through a sports hernia and his back and calf have been bothering him as well.

Description: Mets closer Jenrry Mejia is dealing with a hernia, but he wants to finish the season before undergoing surgery, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Insight: He left after getting two outs in the tenth inning. Mejia hasn't had a very good month (10.38 ERA in four appearances) and this setback won't help matters.

5/17/2014 7:06:00 PM
Description: Mets RHP Jenrry Mejia earned his first career save Saturday against the Nationals.
Insight: New York manager Terry Collins has been going with a closer by committee. Mejia has thrown 3 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts since he was demoted to the bullpen and could keep the closer role given the Mets' lack of options.

Description: Mets right-hander Jenrry Mejia will try his hand at closer Thursday against the Yankees. SOURCE: Adam Rubin, ESPN New York
Insight: Of course, that's assuming the Mets are in a position to win the game. Bobby Parnell's season-ending elbow injury has forced New York to go with a closer by committee. Given how unsuccessful Jose Valverde and Kyle Farnsworth were in the ninth inning role, Mejia should be an improvement.

Insight: Mejia (3-0, 5.06 ERA) hasn't made it out of the fifth inning in either of his last two starts. Minor league phenom Rafael Montero (4-1, 3.67 ERA for Triple-A Las Vegas) will make his first big league start in Mejia's place Wednesday against the Yankees.

Cold5/10/2014 5:40:00 PM
Description: Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia could be on his way to the bullpen, according to David Lennon of Newsday.
Insight: Mejia started off 3-0 with a 1.99 ERA, but he's allowed 16 earned runs on 23 hits in his last 14 2/3 innings. Mets manager Terry Collins said he's unsure if Mejia will make his start on May 14 against the Yankees. If he's moved to the bullpen, New York will call a starter up from Triple-A Las Vegas. Rafael Montero (3.67 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 41 Ks in 41 2/3 IP) and Jacob deGrom (2.58 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 29 Ks in 38 1/3 IP) are the most likely options to replace Mejia.

Hot4/21/2014 10:16:00 PM
Description: New York starter Jenrry Mejia improved to 3-0 after Monday's win over St. Louis.
Insight: Mejia registered seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He hasn't given up a run in his last two starts. Mejia's walk rate is still too high (14 free passes in four starts this season) but with a 1.99 ERA across 22 2/3 innings, the right-hander hasn't given fantasy owners much to complain about.

Description: Mets starter Jenrry Mejia (blister) has been cleared to start Monday against the Cardinals, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.
Insight: Mejia (2-0, 2.81 ERA, 1.44 WHIP) left his last start after five scoreless innings and 77 pitches due to a blister on his right middle finger, but he wasn't bothered by it during his bullpen session on Saturday.

4/16/2014 1:13:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Jenrry Mejia is questionable for his next start due to a blister, according to Adam Rubin of espnny.com.
Insight: That explains why Mejia (2-0, 2.81 ERA, 1.44 WHIP) left Tuesday's start after five scoreless innings and 77 pitches. Manager Terry Collins says he'll know more about Mejia's availability when he attempts to throw a bullpen session Friday.

Description: Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia left Friday's game after getting hit with a line drive on the right forearm, according to Adam Rubin of espnny.com.
Insight: The 24-year-old Mejia left his previous start due to a bunion on his right foot. Either Mejia or Daisuke Matsuzaka will fill the Mets' final rotation spot this season. Mejia has a good deal of upside after posting a 2.87 ERA and 352 Ks in 398 minor league innings, though he has been injured often in his career.

8/20/2013 5:49:00 PM
Description: Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia will undergo season-ending elbow surgery to remove bone chips at some point over the next 7-10 days, according to ESPN's Adam Rubin.
Insight: The 23-year-old Mejia posted a 2.30 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a 27/4 K/BB in 27 1/3 innings this season and should be a part of New York's rotation next season.

8/18/2013 1:43:00 PM
Description: The Mets have placed righthander Jenrry Mejia on the 15-day DL.
Insight: The reason given was bone spurs in his right elbow. According to ESPN New York, Mejia (1-2, 2.30 ERA) could be a candidate for season-ending surgery.

7/26/2013 9:39:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Jenrry Mejia dominated the Nationals Friday in his season debut.
Insight: Elbow inflammation sidelined Mejia for the first three and a half months of the season. Making his seventh major league start, the righthander allowed seven hits in seven scoreless innings. He also had seven strikeouts (that's a lot of sevens). He's scheduled to throw again Wednesday against the Marlins.
