National League Game Summary - San Diego at Los Angeles
(Sunday, July 13)
Final Score: Los Angeles 1, San Diego 0
Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hyun-Jin Ryu tossed six innings of two- hit, shutout ball as the Los Angeles Dodgers earned their second straight 1-0 victory over the San Diego Padres.
The outcome became tenuous in the ninth when San Diego put runners on the corners with one out, but Kenley Jansen struck out Jake Goebbert and Seth Smith to close out the victory.
The Dodgers scored the game's only run in the sixth frame when Dee Gordon slapped a single into left field, stole second on a pitchout and scored on Yasiel Puig's base hit to center.
Ryu (10-5), who failed to make it out of the third inning in his previous start, did not allow a runner past first base and struck out 10, but the left- hander was nevertheless pulled after throwing 92 pitches.
The Padres put two on against Brandon League in the seventh, and J.P. Howell entered from the bullpen with two outs and got Brooks Conrad to fly out to left field.
Howell stayed on and pitched the eighth before Jansen escaped with his 27th save of the year.
Tyson Ross (7-10), despite lowering his ERA to 2.85, was saddled with the loss having allowed one run on six hits over seven frames.
San Diego dropped three of four in the series and heads to the All-Star break having lost seven of its last nine.
The Dodgers hold the NL's best record at the break at 54-43.
Gordon leads the majors with 43 steals ... Ryu is 3-0 with a 0.71 ERA in four career starts against the Padres ... Ross is 0-3 in five career starts against the Dodgers ... The Dodgers lead the season series, 7-3, but all 10 games have been decided by three or fewer runs.
