Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Trout's two-run homer helped lead the
LA Angels of Anaheim to a 8-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins in the opener
of a three-game set.
Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick both had two hits, two RBI and a run scored
for the Angels, who have won four straight and five of their last six.
Starter C.J. Wilson (8-6) earned the win despite allowing six runs on nine
hits with four strikeouts across five innings.
"I had to try to make them miss," Wilson said. "It was the best luck to get
all that run support."
Josh Willingham and Kendrys Morales supplied consecutive home runs to start
the second and Danny Santana doubled twice for Minnesota, which saw its four-
game win streak come to an end.
Kyle Gibson (6-6) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs on
four hits and two walks in just two innings of work.
"They got to Kyle early, it was a rough night for him," said Twins manager Ron
Gardenhire. "He just couldn't get anything working."
Kole Calhoun and Trout both walked and Albert Pujols reached on a fielder's
choice before Hamilton's single scored Calhoun and Trout in the first inning.
Erick Aybar was hit by a pitch to reload the bases.
Kendrick brought in two runs with a single and C.J. Cron grounded into a
double play that scored Aybar, giving the Halos an early 5-0 lead.
The Twins tied it in the second. Willingham and Morales smacked back-to-back
shots to lead off the frame. Eduardo Escobar reached on a fielder's choice,
moved to second on Wilson's botched pickoff attempt and scored on Sam Fuld's
After Fuld stole second, Santana drove him in with a double to right and Brian
Dozier's RBI single made it a 5-5 game.
Trout put the Angels ahead 7-5 in the second with a two-run shot to right-
The Twins got within one in the fifth. Dozier led off with a single to left
and Joe Mauer doubled to left. Two batters later, Morales' deep sacrifice fly
to center brought in Dozier.
Calhoun's sac fly made it an 8-6 game in the eighth before Joe Smith tossed a
scoreless ninth for his sixth save of the season. Mauer grounded out to leave
Dozier stranded at second.
The Twins lost their sixth straight road game ... Twins right fielder Chris
Parmelee extended his hitting streak to six games ... Kendrick has hit in
eight consecutive games ... The Angels are nine games over .500 for the first
time since the end of the 2012 season ... Wilson is 6-0 over his last seven
starts at Angel Stadium ... Trout stroked his first career home run against
the Twins. He has now homered against every American League team.
