Phils beat Fernandez, Marlins to end skid
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Marlon Byrd had a double and two RBI to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-3 win over the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.
Chase Utley and Ryan Howard each had an RBI and two runs scored for the Phillies, who snapped a four-game skid. Dominic Brown added two hits and an RBI.
A.J. Burnett threw 4 1/3 frames for Philadelphia before exiting the game with groin soreness as a precautionary measure. He fanned four while allowing two runs and issuing six walks.
Jake Diekman (1-0) struck out the two batters he faced in relief of Burnett to pick up the win. Jonathan Papelbon set Miami down in order in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.
Derek Dietrich hit a two-run homer and Jeff Baker picked up an RBI for the Marlins, who have lost five straight.
Jose Fernandez (2-1) was knocked around for six runs on eight hits over four- plus innings of work, while striking out six and walking four.
